Brief history of the jeep wrangler
The Jeep Wrangler's roots can be traced all the way back to the early 1940's when the army was looking for a multi-purpose overland vehicle, which resulted in the Willy's MB and Ford GPW. With production of the first Civilian Jeeps (CJ) in 1945, the civilian market was able to buy their own Jeeps new from the factory. After going through many different alterations and owners, the Jeep brand was owned by AMC, and in 1987 the first Wrangler, the successor to the CJ-7, was brought to market. Very shortly after the Wrangler's introduction, the Chrysler corporation bought the Jeep brand, and continues to produce the Wrangler to this day. Despite a stop in production of military vehicles for over 40 years, Jeep now produces the J8, a purpose-built vehicle used in several foreign militaries, and is marketing it to the US government in a bid for a military contract.
